Who we are
Vidpulp (“Vidpulp”, “we”, “us”) is a service that monitors the YouTube playlists you choose, generates AI summaries of new videos, and emails them to you as a digest. We are a UK-based micro-business. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what we do with it. If you have any questions, email us at support@vidpulp.com.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address and Google account identifier, provided when you sign in with Google.
- YouTube data: the playlists you choose to track and metadata about the videos in them (titles, channels, publish dates), accessed with read-only permission.
- Preferences & usage: settings such as digest frequency, and records of the summaries we generate for you.
- Billing information: if you subscribe to Pro, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details. We never see or store your full card number.
- Approximate location: the country you are in, derived from your IP address when you finish setting up your account. We store only this country (for example, GB), never your IP address. We use it to apply region-specific rules, such as which marketing emails we are allowed to send you.
How we use your information
- To provide the service: monitor your playlists, fetch transcripts, and generate summaries.
- To deliver your email digests at your chosen frequency.
- To manage your subscription and process payments.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Marketing emails
With your consent, we may send you occasional emails about product updates and tips for getting more out of Vidpulp. We only send these if you opt in, either during onboarding or from your account settings. Our lawful basis for this is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time: every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also turn these emails off in your settings. Service emails (such as your digests, receipts, and account notices) are separate and are not affected by this choice.
Service providers we share data with
We rely on a small set of trusted processors to run Vidpulp. They only receive the data needed to perform their function:
- Google / YouTube: authentication and read-only access to your playlists.
- Supabase: authentication and database hosting for your account and content.
- AI summarization providers (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI): we send video transcripts to generate summaries. Transcripts are processed to produce summaries and are not used by us to train models.
- Stripe: payment processing for Pro subscriptions.
- Resend: delivery of your email digests.
- Vercel & Railway: application and background-processing hosting.
- Sentry: error monitoring and diagnostics for the web app and background worker, so we can detect and fix faults.
- PostHog: privacy friendly product analytics, used only with your consent to understand how the service is used so we can improve it.
- Featurebase: hosts our public feedback board, linked from the app. If you choose to submit feedback there, anything you provide is handled by Featurebase under its own privacy policy.
For error monitoring, Sentry receives technical and diagnostic data in the form of error reports. These may include your IP address, browser and device information, and limited account context such as your user ID. We use this only to detect, diagnose, and fix errors and to keep the service secure and stable. Our lawful basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in operating a reliable service.
YouTube API Services
Vidpulp uses YouTube API Services. By using Vidpulp you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and your use of data is subject to the Google Privacy Policy. You can revoke Vidpulp’s access to your Google account at any time from your Google account connections page.
Vidpulp’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
We use the YouTube data we access (your playlists and the metadata of the videos in them) solely to provide Vidpulp’s features: letting you choose which playlists to track and generating the email digests you signed up for. We never use this YouTube API data to develop, improve, or train generalised AI or machine learning models.
How we protect your data
We take the security of your data seriously and use industry-standard measures to protect it, including the data we access from your Google account:
- Encryption in transit: all data exchanged with Vidpulp travels over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.
- Encryption at rest: your account data and content are held in databases that are encrypted at rest by our hosting providers.
- Restricted access: access to personal data is limited to authorised personnel on a need-to-know basis and protected by authentication controls.
- Least privilege: we request only read-only access to your YouTube account, and the Google authorisation tokens that allow this are stored securely and used only to provide the service.
No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your information and to limit access to only what is needed to run Vidpulp. If we become aware of a breach that affects your personal data, we will act promptly and comply with our legal obligations to notify you and the relevant authorities.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your playlists, preferences, and account record. Some information may persist briefly in backups or where we are required to retain it (for example, billing records for tax purposes).
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can delete your account and data directly from your settings, or contact us at support@vidpulp.com to exercise any of these rights.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we’ll update the “last updated” date above. Questions? Email support@vidpulp.com.
